Make Toilet Scent Tabs Yourself

Often the toilet is cleaned with far too aggressive agents, but it can also be done more gently.

Toilet cleaning tabs can easily be made by yourself and clean the toilet reliably and gently. You can make them for yourself or as a gift in a pretty glass yourself. Try it!

Toilet clean and pure with natural means

If you look at the “list of ingredients” of conventional toilet cleaners on the Internet , you might think that you have a chemistry laboratory in the cleaning cupboard.

Some of these are substances that are dangerous for our waters and that can react dangerously with other cleaning agents. It is better not to use such “chemical bombs”.

If a toilet is cleaned regularly, urine scale and lime have no chance anyway – and even if they do, you can get rid of them with natural means.

Natural detergents:

  • Citric acid is ideal for cold descaling in the bathroom or in the kitchen. When cold, it has excellent limescale-removing properties and does not attack the fittings. In the kitchen, please only use it when it is cold, as when heated in conjunction with lime, a new, whitish coating is created, calcium citrate, which, like lime, affects the function of the kettle and coffee machine.
  • Acetic acid is also ideal against limescale. It is also suitable for hot application and has the additional advantage that it has a certain bactericidal potential, i.e. it can kill or inhibit germs. It depends on the dosage: With vinegar essence or lemon juice you can keep the shower, sink and toilet clean in everyday life .
  • Hydrogen peroxide is more familiar from detergents, this substance is in “the mild bleach without chlorine”. Hydrogen peroxide  has a natural bleaching and disinfecting effect . It makes it possible to act as a stain remover against stubborn stains of organic origin (coffee, tea, juice, grass, …). During use, hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen in an environmentally friendly way.
  • Soda actually means sodium bicarbonate or, more correctly, sodium hydrogen carbonate and is sold in the trade as soda, baking soda or soda. Soda is the main component of effervescent powder; in combination with acid, it makes it fizzy. It loosens encrustations and neutralizes odors.

You can use these agents separately for cleaning in the household and thus achieve very good results.

Manufacture of toilet tabs

To make fragrant tabs for cleaning your toilet, you basically only need these ingredients, which you combine with each other. In addition, you choose an essential oil of your choice.

We recommend lavender oil or tea tree oil, as these two essential oils have bactericidal properties. You need:

  • 160 g baking soda
  • 60 ml lemon juice
  • 15 ml of vinegar essence
  • 20 ml of hydrogen peroxide
  • essential oil of your choice

Tabs

Start with the baking soda by pouring it into a bowl.

Then slowly add the lemon juice and knead it in. Lumps can form, so it’s best to use a fork to crush the lumps.

Now gradually add the vinegar essence. It can foam a little, but not for long.

Just as carefully and slowly add the hydrogen peroxide to your mixture and work in all the ingredients thoroughly.

Then, use spoons to form balls that you squeeze tightly to keep them from falling apart. You can also roll out the mixture tightly on a baking sheet lined with baking paper (press down well!) And then cut out hearts, flowers or other motifs with cutters.

Then let the tabs dry well overnight. This is best done on a wire rack or grillage so that air can dry on your tabs from all sides.

When the tabs are thoroughly dry, sprinkle them one at a time with the essential oil of your choice to give them an extra scent. Dose to taste.

It is important to protect the tabs from moisture now . The best way to do this is to fill it in an airtight jar, for example a mason jar with a rubber ring.

You can now give away the tabs or use them yourself. For example, put them in the cistern of your toilet or use them to scent the toilet after cleaning or as needed.

Although they are not dangerous, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children!
