Do you prefer cold or warm healthy drinks for the summer?

One reads again and again that it is unhealthy, even dangerous, to drink cold drinks. And then in other sources one reads that cold drinks are particularly good. what is right, what is wrong?

Well, if you want to freshen up in summer, our recipe ideas are indeed delicious, but not suitable for cooling yourself down from the inside when the heat is high.

The body first has to heat up cold drinks to body temperature; for this it needs heat, which it has to produce.

It is therefore nonsensical to pour down cold drinks in the heat to cool off or after exercising. The body then temporarily heats up more than before!

So what are the best drinks for summer?

In midsummer or after exercise, drinks that are at body temperature (or room temperature) are best. Then just leave out the ice cubes or enjoy our recipes on a mild summer evening …

Grapefruit and lemon balm spritzer

The bitter substances in grapefruit have a refreshing effect and also curb the appetite.

These are also included in the bowl, which is why you should definitely use them.

Of course, this only works if you use organically grown fruit whose skin is absolutely free of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and artificial waxes.

Because grapefruits are not necessarily in season in summer, you can also use grapefruit juice from the bottle, but make sure that it is 100% juice with no added sugar.

You need:

  • 2l water
  • 1 grapefruit (or 200ml grapefruit juice)
  • 1 lemon
  • Lemon balm

Use a zest zipper to peel off a few fine strips of grapefruit and lemon (always organic, please!) And set them aside.

Squeeze out the grapefruit and add the juice to a blender.

Chop the lemon into large pieces and remove any seeds.

Add the lemon pieces to the grapefruit juice in the blender and add about 500ml of water.

Then puree the lemon in juice and water until everything is finely divided. Pour the resulting juice through a sieve.

Now fill the juice with the rest of the water and add the lemon balm. The longer it stays in the drink, the fresher the aroma.

Serve over high heat at room temperature and without ice cubes.

Coconut lime

Please do not use coconut milk to make this drink , because it is very high in calories, very fatty and sometimes even sweetened!

Only use pure coconut water, make sure that it has not been sweetened afterwards. For a refreshing tropical drink you need:

  • 200ml coconut water
  • 2l water
  • 1 lime
  • Peppermint leaves

Squeeze out the juice of the lime and mix in all the other ingredients. The coconut taste is very mild and the lime has a refreshingly sour kick.

The mint leaves make your mouth feel fresh. This drink for the summer is very low in calories, but tastes like vacation, give it a try!

Drink ginger

Ginger iced tea

The spiciness of ginger is more likely to make you break out in a sweat, so be careful with the dosage. Everyone can use more or less spiciness, so dose according to your taste. For the delicious ginger iced tea you need:

  • Fresh ginger root to taste
  • 1 lemon
  • 2L water

Grate the fresh ginger root, then boil it in half the water to make a tea.

Let the tea cool down until it is completely cold and in the meantime squeeze out the lemon.

Now pour the cold ginger tea with the other half of cold water and add the lemon juice.

Do not add sweetening to the drinks ; that would bring calories with it – even if it is honey! The point here is to meet your fluid requirements with as few calories as possible.

And these three drinks are delicious even without sugar or sugar alternatives. And above all: refreshing!
