What lemons can do for your health!

Actually, you should always have a few lemons in the fruit basket, because they are very versatile for your health. Did you know what lemons  can do for your health?

You can use them in many recipes – or simply drink their juice diluted or undiluted. Here we explain the benefits of lemons  for your health!

Lemons

Lemon supports weight loss

Citrus fruits in general and lemons in particular can help you lose fat and lose weight.

Because lemons not only contain citric acid, but also natural bitter substances. These act as natural appetite suppressants.

In addition, these bitter substances work against bacteria, cancer and inflammation and lower cholesterol. If bitter substances are supposed to suppress the appetite, they shouldn’t be “hidden” under sweeteners!

The zest of the lemon is particularly rich in bitter substances – especially in the white areas. It is therefore important that you use the whole fruit if you want to use the lemon to support a diet !

Basically, if you use any citrus fruits whole to get the bitter substances under the peel, they must be organically grown, it should be healthy and not toxic!

In conventional cultivation and trade, the peel of citrus fruits is treated not only with pesticides, but also with fungicides so that the fruits do not start to mold on their way from the tree to the store (and during the sometimes long storage).

To give the fruits an attractive shine, everything is sealed with a layer of wax. And you’d drink or eat all of that. Good Appetite! Therefore , please only use organically grown lemons.

Lemon prevents diseases

Lemons also support your immune system with their high vitamin C content and thus prevent colds, for example.

It is always important to take vitamins in their natural form so that they can be optimally absorbed and used by the body! The vitamin C from lemon is therefore undoubtedly more effective than a vitamin preparation from the supermarket!

In addition, the lemon contains other active plant substances such as other vitamins, fiber and secondary plant substances.

Fruit can only develop its real effect and support your health when all of its ingredients work together. Therefore, please always use fresh lemons and not lemon juice from a bottle, plastic lemon or concentrate!

Lemon for skin care

If you have calluses on your heels, knees, or elbows that you want to soften so that you can rub them off with a pumice stone, let lemon juice soak on the areas.

To do this, it is sufficient to put the peel of a squeezed lemon around the knee joint, heel or elbow (like a small cap) and let the citric acid soak in.

Citric acid can also help against warts. The acid softens the wart’s cornea. So that the healthy skin around the wart is not affected by the acid, grease it thickly before use, e.g. with petroleum jelly.

Then soak a cut piece of cotton wool with lemon juice and secure it over the wart with a waterproof plaster. Repeat morning and evening and regularly scrape off the softened callus on the surface of the wart!

With lemon against cancer and premature aging

Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant and lemons are particularly rich in vitamin C!

Antioxidants are our most important allies in the fight against highly reactive oxygen compounds, so-called free radicals, which are created in the body by influences such as UV radiation, exhaust gases, drugs and environmental toxins.

What follows from this is called oxidative stress. Too much of it can damage cells, accelerate the aging process and is also blamed for a whole range of diseases.

Antioxidants are natural ingredients that can protect our body cells from these harmful influences. The fresher the juice, the higher the vitamin content – and the antioxidant effect!

Tips for consuming lemons

If you have citric acid problems, baking soda can help neutralize it. In this way you can enjoy all the positive properties of lemon, but you do without the acidity of the fruit.

Simply add a teaspoon of baking soda to the lemon juice. Watch out, it foams! Soda is available in stores under the names “Kaiser Natron”, “Bullrich Salt” or “Food Soda”. It neutralizes acid (in this case: citric acid) and releases gas: your juice bubbles!

It is also important that you know that vitamin C is not heat stable and breaks down when cooked. Therefore, only use lemon juice in cold dishes such as desserts, smoothies, salads, juices, etc.

The bowl and its valuable bitter substances can also be eaten hot, e.g. in sauces, soups, pastries, cakes and with meat dishes, e.g. chicken or fish.
